Secretary of State Nominations Have Been Historically Bipartisan Votes, Until Now

CIA Director Mike Pompeo is expected to receive a vote for his nomination to be secretary of state this week. Previously, Pompeo was confirmed to serve as CIA Director just 14 months ago in a bipartisan 66-32 vote in the Senate.

But Democrats, in the latest sign that they’re prioritizing partisan rancor over getting important diplomatic work done, are threatening to vote against Pompeo’s nomination.
