Race Rundown: 10-19-18

October 19, 2018

This week as filled with polls, debates, and fundraising numbers for House and Senate candidates across the country. The Republican National Committee announced it raised $56 million in the third quarter of 2018, which was a record amount for a non-presidential year.

Those watching the 2018 midterms closely have observed a potential “Kavanaugh effect,” in which Republican voters are more energized following the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. That has had the impact of potentially mitigating Democratic gains in certain House and Senate races.

New polls this week showed Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL) leading in Florida, Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV) leading in Nevada, and the news just keeps getting worse for Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) in Arizona.

Sensing a potential weakness, the Congressional Leadership Fund went up with a Spanish-language ad in a Miami district this week, and the Democrats’ campaign committee pulled ads in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District — a sign the group has given up hope for the seat.
