While the Supreme Court confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill dominated headlines this week, a lot of action was taking place out in the states. In Arizona, Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ) appointed former Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) to fill the vacancy left by the late Sen. John McCain. Kyl, who was sworn in on Wednesday, has agreed to serve out the rest of the year, but questions remain about whether he will serve until the special election in 2020.
Polls in Florida and Missouri showed tied Senate races in each of those states, while Sens. Joe Manchin and Sherrod Brown hold small leads in their respective states.
On the House front, another incumbent Democrat fell in a primary battle in Massachusetts. Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA) lost his primary to Ayanna Pressley.
