The primaries in Tennessee punctuated yet another busy week of political activity this summer. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and former Gov. Phil Bredesen (D-TN) cruised to victory in each of their respective primaries while Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) fell short to businessman Bill Lee in the GOP gubernatorial primary.
Meanwhile, President Obama made his first wave of political endorsements this week, publicly backing 81 candidates. President Trump on the other hand said he expects to campaign six to seven days a week for Republican candidates in the lead up to the November midterms. The president attended a rally for Rep. Lou Barletta’s (R-PA) Senate campaign in Wilkes-Barre this week and will head to Ohio this weekend to stump for Troy Balderson in the 12th Congressional District special election.
Speaking of Balderson, he also received support from Vice President Mike Pence this week. He faces Democrat Danny O’Connor in the August 7 primary. O’Connor got in hot water last week for saying he would back Nancy Pelosi for speaker after previously promising he would not.
