Gillibrand’s Silence on the Jerusalem Embassy Highlights Her Complicated Past with Israel Policy

Earlier this month, President Trump moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move that affirmed the administration’s view that Jerusalem is the rightful capital of Israel.

The controversial move spurred quick and diverse responses from national Democrats and 2020 presidential hopefuls. Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), both considered potential progressive candidates for the Democratic nomination in 2020, were quick to make statements about the resulting violence in the Gaza Strip.
